Tunes

Note on Soundcloud: When you select a tune to play, you will be taken to Soundcloud in a new tab, where the tune will play. When the selected tune has finished, Soundcloud will auto-play another tune of its own liking. There is nothing that can be done about this, so just click the X at the right-hand side of the tab title to close the tab.

French singer/songwriter wrote the lyrics for Hymne A L'amour (song of love), to a tune by Marguerite Monnot. Here we just play an arrangement of the tune. This was recorded at our YCC meeting on 16 July 2018.

Military band music is fun to play in a concertina band, and this is no exception. It gives our base concertina a bit of exposure. Written by Elmer Bernstein, it was the theme tune for the movie The Great Escape. Recorded at the YCC meeting on 17 June 2018.

Abbe Stadler was a Benedictine Monk and Abbot of Kremsmunster Monastery in Austria from 1789. He was a friend of Beethoven, who composed this work with him in mind. Played by the YCC on 17 June 2018.

Lili Marleen is something of a German folk song, with words about a "lady of the night" which were translated a little more kindly into English. YCC played this at their meeting on 17 July 2018 though there are older versions of our performances on Soundcloud.

Skiba Geo, a tune written and arranged for the Yorkshire Concertina Club by Duet player Steve Griffiths. The tune was written while Steve was on holiday in Orkney and was inspired by a walk around Skiba Geo, a place name believed to be rooted in the island's Viking heritage, and roughly translates as Ship Inlet.

Oom Pa Pa was written by Lionel Bart for his popular musical Oliver! and has been arranged for YCC by our band leader Carolyn Wade. This was recorded in the early stages of our rehearsal of the number at our meeting in Leeds on 21 April 2024.
