2019 January 20th At this meeting we tried out four tunes:- Go Down Moses, Only You, Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy and We'll Meet Again and There'll Always Be An England, all newly arranged for concertina by Carolyn. We all enjoyed all of these tunes, despite some of them being a bit challenging, and therefore we decided that we would work on them all in the coming year.
After lunch John played his new tune, which Ruth took away to arrange for Morris. We then turned to our project on John's tunes. Steve has arranged Old Jock's Dance, The Little Mouse and Bernie The Ragtime Ferret. Shannon Waters does not need much arranging if we use the three part version. Steve will have a look at this for March. I think most of us found these arrangements quite challenging, but we're looking forward to the improvement that practice will bring. Good arrangements!
We finished the day by practising the session tunes, Speed The Plough, Morpeth Rant and Winster Gallop, slowly at first, then speeding up, and trying to play them without music. We may revisit these in March.
February17th Dave Ball led a workshop and introduced his tunes project.
